Issue 03: juice pulp cookies, salt lamp housewarming, and old art
Recent gems in my sensory world.
I took a break to move (again) and get settled into a new chapter of my life. I’m excited to share another issue of Sensory: the mundane and mystical in everyday life where where I relish boredom, presence, and pleasure as sacred counsel to notice what’s right in front of me right now, today.
A few times a month, I’ll share things like:
sensorystack: short odes to what I’m hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling, or touching in my daily life
silly putty: a thought, idea, or feeling I’m stretching and playing with
POV: a mini humorous or nostalgic story, silly dream, or time capsule to innocence
loving on less: neurodivergent-friendly minimalism, sensory-friendly goods, simple gluten free recipes
I hope you enjoy this meditation, reprieve, and nostalgic space to explore being delightfully human.

A stack of recent sensations.
Tasting
Fine mesh strainers changed my life. I debated for along time if it was necessary because I don’t like having extra kitchen items we don’t use, but I use them almost daily.
I’m on a mission to clear my skin, and my body often craves green juice. I can’t drink most of the ingredients in the pre-made juices at the store so I started making my own with my blender.
My green juice recipe:
2 green apples, cored, unpeeled, diced (add more if you want it sweeter)
Juice of 3 lemons
3 thumbs of ginger, peeled or unpeeled (add more if you want it spicier)
Organic celery juice
Greens powder (optional)
Add enough celery juice to blend, then strain your ingredients. I use a spatula to stir and press the pulp but a cheese cloth would work great too.
I dilute this 1:1 with more celery juice to make the batch go further. Ginger is one of the most powerful herbs so a little goes a long way. (Spoken from someone who drank way too much ginger juice and made herself nauseous.)
Then, with the pulp, you can make these delicious vegan and gluten free cinnamon-ginger cookies that taste like spicy apple pie. Since I’m not using a juicer, I had to add extra flour because my pulp is likely a bit wetter. I also cut the sweetener by about 1/3 and they still came out amazing and were a total crowd pleaser. These are high in fiber, so pace yourself accordingly.
I might have to make these for my retreat in September because they were that good.
Seeing
My new neighborhood is such a delight on my senses. Most walks, I bring my camera with me. There’s something beautiful around every corner. I keep saying everyone in my neighborhood is either an artist or a witch. Its cottage core meets Spanish coastal, and I’m here for it.
My monstera is thriving under the skylight with the magical afternoon sunbeam. This picture is a couple months old and it’s now doubled or tripled in size.
A month ago, I was in such a rut. I went for my prescribed mental health walk and FOUND this salt lamp on the curb. Protection and boundaries continue to be huge themes for me so this was a gorgeous—and very California—housewarming gift to bring into our new space.
Touching
I’m coming out of a very anxious arc so my latest stim is a lot of knocking gently with my fist on my chest and ribcage. This helps me catch my breath and is particularly helpful when I’m overstimulated on long drives.
Hearing
I studied classical piano for most of my life so this playlist is full of gems.
Silly Putty
Thoughts, ideas, and feelings I’m stretching and playing with.
These are themes or topics coming up in readings, conversations, or my own pondering lately.
Your old art isn’t done with you. I stumbled upon some words I wrote when I first moved to California (the first time) about my high school experience. I honestly don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in months. What I thought was terrible at the time is actually astute, hilarious observations from my younger self. I was so proud of my younger self for her bravery and silliness. Elyse Myers fans just found out she’s been recording music for years. Charli XCX’s Coachella performance sparked a renewed interest in a 2020 song so she released a new music video. Your art doesn’t have an expiration date.
Your art is a public service. When you feel less than optimal (read: cranky, antisocial, hypercritical, uncomfortable in your clothes or skin), you can still change hearts and minds. When you’re in a place that is so innately part of you, it takes so much less of you. In your essence, you are potent. The tiniest dose of your presence can still stir soul. Your art is for you except when your art is for someone else you’re about to meet when you show up and share your heart.
Put as little friction as possible between you and your heart’s desires. I recently moved from a high rise to a ground floor unit. Instead of twenty floors down, my car is right outside my door. Exploration feels more within reach. The world is literally right outside my door and my body’s desire is no longer blocked by circumstance. Physically move what you want closer to you. It may make all the difference.
Thanks for reading this issue. I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Body & Soul Retreat in La Jolla Shores, San Diego
I’m bringing together 10 healers and artists for five days of soulful connection this September. Refill your cup with replenishing play and presence. With a blend of solo, 1:1, and group connection, this retreat is spacious, creative, and even a little nostalgic for the inner child in us all.
- is on board to bring our culinary vision to life (think: fresh and colorful plus elevated comfort food); I’m bringing in some of my favorite healers (acupuncture, sound healing, gentle movement) to tend to our bodies; and I’m planning time to explore San Diego. The house is also just two blocks from the beach.
This post was such a lovely burst of energy for my Monday!
